SEASONAL GARDEN GUIDE
A well maintained garden is the result of regular, seasonal care. By tending to your garden throughout the year, you’ll encourage healthy growth, reduce the risk of pests and disease, and enjoy a lush, beautiful outdoor space no matter the season.
Each time of year brings specific tasks that set your garden up for success, from strategic pruning and planting to mulching, mowing, and frost protection.
Staying on top of these seasonal requirements is the best way to ensure your garden thrives — not just survives.
Here’s your guide to what your garden needs, month by month…
-

AUTUMN ~ March to May
March: Begin raking leaves, reduce the frequency of mowing as growth slows, and start mulching garden beds.
April: Prune summer-flowering shrubs, plant bulbs for spring, and continue clearing fallen leaves.
May: Finish any major pruning, protect sensitive plants from the upcoming cold, and prepare the garden for winter.
-

WINTER ~ June to August
June: Minimal mowing is needed, prune deciduous trees and shrubs while they're dormant.
July: Protect plants from frost, and consider adding frost cloths or mulch for insulation.
August: Start planning for spring by tidying up garden beds and checking garden tools and equipment.
-

SPRING ~ September to November
September: Start planting new flower beds, fertilise lawns, and begin regular mowing as the grass starts growing more quickly.
October: Prune spring-flowering shrubs once they've bloomed, start weeding, and keep an eye on pests.
November: Continue mowing, mulching garden beds to retain moisture, and plant summer annuals.
-

SUMMER ~ December to February
December: Watering is crucial, so set up irrigation if needed, and keep lawns and garden beds hydrated.
January: Regular mowing and edging of lawns, deadhead flowers to encourage continuous blooming, and keep an eye out for weeds.
February: Continue watering, and start preparing for autumn by planting late-summer vegetables or flowers.
